Meet The Director

We were blessed with the opportunity to speak with the writer, director, and visionary force behind the play, Stolen Identity. Her name is Mrs. Torri Alexander and here is what we learned:

Torri Alexander is the wife of Sidney Alexander IV and the mother of two children, Ethan and Regan Alexander. She currently resides in her hometown of Canton, MS. She graduated from Canton High School in 1997 and later went on to pursue a degree in Computer Engineering from Mississippi State University and Jackson State University respectively. It was during these educational pursuits that Torri realized obtaining a degree in engineering was not God's plan for her life. Considering her love for helping people, she has currently decided to pursue degrees in Social Services and Christian Counseling and hopes to one day start a foundation that will encourage and assist young women in becoming the women that God has called them to be. She is a member of Cathedral A.M.E. Zion Church where she is a member of The Daughters of Miriam and the Men of Judah dance ministry and The Sisterhood of Faith ministry. Her favorite scripture is Hebrews 11:1: "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." She believes and states with Holy conviction that when you put your complete trust in God there are no limitations to what you can achieve through Him. Her prayer is that the people of God will come into the knowledge of who they truly are in Christ.

We asked Torri: What was the inspiration/vision behind Stolen Identity?
I was sitting on my couch in my home one day and was thinking about the things that I was going through in life and things some of my loved ones were going through. While thinking about this I became angry because we were all in the church but were allowing the enemy to have us bound in our own different ways. One thing that came to mind was that satan was robbing us of who we could become in God. It's one thing when a non-believer is doing things outside the will of God but when a believer is allowing satan to step in and have his way that's a whole other ballgame. At that very moment I got up and grabbed a notebook and pencil and decided to write about what I was thinking and it started coming out in the form of a story. At the time I really didn't think that it would turn into anything but God had a different plan.

What is the meaning of the title, Stolen Identity?
Just imagine someone breaking into your home and taking things that don't belong to them. It's the same way spiritually. We allow satan to come into our lives and rob us of who we are in Christ. The word says that God created us in His own image. Once we receive salvation, our lives are no longer our own. Our lives belong to God to be used for His kingdom purpose. Anytime we do something that is contrary to the Word we are not being good reflections of Christ. We thus allow satan through deception to take something that does not belong to him.

Finally Torri, what do you hope this play will mean to the body of Christ?
My prayer is that once one sees this play that they will first allow God to show them how they have allowed satan to rob them of their identity in Him, secondly, confess the sin (we have to acknowledge our wrong doing even though God already knows it) and thirdly repent which is to turn from what they are doing. And the last and most important thing to do is continue to study the word and seek God for direction.. He gave us His word to help us to become who He purposed us to be. When we keep ourselves rooted in His word satan can't steal from us, he can't kill us, and he can't destroy us. He can come against us but the word says that "No weapon formed against us shall prosper".

We thank Torri for sharing this insight with us. We're all looking forward with GREAT anticipation to the actual play to be held:

Stolen Identity, the Play

Stolen Identity is a play that is sure to stir you down to your very soul. A key scripture and theme is found in John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. Here is a bit of biblical commentary from John Gill's Exposition to share some enlightening insight on this key Word.

The thief cometh not but for to steal,.... That is his first and principal view; to steal, is to invade, seize, and carry away another's property. Such teachers that come not in by the right door, or with a divine commission, seek to deceive, and carry away the sheep of Christ from him, though they are not able to do it; and to steal away their hearts from him, as Absalom stole the hearts of the people from their rightful lord and sovereign, David his father; and to subject them to themselves, that they might lord it over them, and make a property of them, as the Pharisees did, who, under a pretence of long prayers, devoured widows' houses.

And to kill and to destroy; either the souls of men by their false doctrines, which eat as doth a cancer, and poison the minds of men, and slay the souls that should not die, subverting the faith of nominal professors, though they cannot destroy any of the true sheep of Christ; or the bodies of the saints, by their oppression, tyranny, and persecution, who are killed all the day long for the sake of Christ, and are accounted as sheep for the slaughter, by these men, they thinking that by so doing they do God good service.

I am come that they might have life; that the sheep might have life, or the elect of God might have life, both spiritual and eternal; who, as the rest of mankind, are by nature dead in trespasses and sins, and liable in themselves to an eternal death: Christ came into this world in human nature, to give his flesh, his body, his whole human nature, soul and body, for the life of these persons, or that they might live spiritually here, and eternally hereafter; and so the Arabic version renders it, "that they might have eternal life"; Nonnus calls it, "a life to come"; which is in Christ, and the gift of God through him; and which he gives to all his sheep, and has a power to give to as many as the Father has given him:

and that they might have it more abundantly; or, as the Syriac version reads, "something more abundant"; that is, than life; meaning not merely than the life of wicked men, whose blessings are curses to them; or than their own life, only in the present state of things; or than long life promised under the law to the observers of it; but even than the life Adam had in innocence, which was but a natural and moral, not a spiritual life, or that life which is hid with Christ in God; and also than that which angels live in heaven, which is the life of servants, and not of sons: or else the sense is, that Christ came that his people might have eternal life, with more abundant evidence of it than was under the former dispensation, and have stronger faith in it, and a more lively hope of it: or, as the words may be rendered, "and that they might have an abundance": besides life, might have an abundance of grace from Christ, all spiritual blessings in him now, and all fulness of joy, glory, and happiness hereafter.
